Meet the Invasive Species: Sea Lamprey

Sea lampreys (Petromyzon marinus) are parasitic fish native to the Atlantic Ocean. Sea lampreys, which parasitize other fish by sucking their blood and other body fluids, have an enormous, negative impact on the Great Lakes fishery, inflicting considerable damage.

The Great Lakes Fishery Comiision has created a webpage for educators to expand their educational reach throughout the Great Lakes to learn more about Sea Lamprey and their impact on our natural world. Whether you teach in a formal classroom setting, host visitors at a nature center, work at a camp, or fall somewhere in between, this page has Great Lakes and sea lamprey related resources for you, including lesson plants, activity books, and videos.
